HUT GULLY BEACH
Anglesea

From: Ben Wentworth
Posted: 27 November 2003

Location: Hut Gully Beach, Anglesea.

Directions: Drive 5 minutes towards Lorne from Anglesea and you will come across a dip in the road that says "Hut Gully" and there is a small car park and access to the beach.

Type of water: Ocean.

Type of fishing: Surf.

Target fish: Salmon, gummy shark, snapper.

Best times: Winter season during the day or whenever the tide is high.

Tackle: A double drop paternoster rig with a surf popper on one drop is very effective with the salmon. A running sinker and 40cm leader with a full pilchard is better for the larger fish.

Baits: Bluebait and pilchards. The small bright colored bluebait works really well. I get mine from Catch 22 in Geelong.

Long shot: There are always mulloway floating around but these are a lot harder to catch.

Parking: A small car park on the side of the Great Ocean Road.

Safety: It is a beautiful beach that runs out quite slowly, it doesn't dive off like Pt Addis.

Amenities: There are plenty of facilities available at Anglesea or Aireys Inlet.

Kids: Yes.

Pets: Yes.

Last word: I do have some photos of three nice 1kg salmon caught there but they are not on a digital camera. It's a really nice beach and is a good alternative for those who might have used Pt Addis before it was wrongly taken away from us.
