JUNIOR CODE OF CONDUCT

This new educational package "Get Hooked - Its fun to Fish" is a joint project funded under the NHT Fisheries Action Program and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

This national fisheries initiative is to introduce primary school students to freshwater and marine fish, other aquatic life, and the importance of sustaining a quality fish habitat while practising safe and responsible fishing behaviours through an interactive discovery based program.

The activities are structured around the six National Junior Fishing Codes, which evolved to sustainably manage, protect and conserve the environment. The six codes that form the basis for each activity session are:

  • Take only what you need
  • Fish with friends
  • You’re the solution to water pollution
  • Throw the little ones back
  • Don’t leave your tackle behind
  • Quality catchments equals quality fish

The kit is written under the national curriculum framework and is aimed towards grades 3, 4, 5, & 6. Delivery of the kit is designed for Fishcare Volunteers and/or primary school teachers. It is also available and may be downloaded via the NRE internet site
