Notes on Bureau of Meteorology Forecasts and Warnings

Bureau of Meteorology forecasts and warnings express average wind speeds.

Wind gusts up to 40% above the average speed can be expected.

The Bureau issues Strong Wind Warnings when the average wind speed is expected to be 25 to 33 knots; Gale Warning for 34 to 47 knots and Storm Warnings for wind speeds of 48 knots or more.

Bureau of Meteorology wave forecast refers to the significant wave height, which is the average height of the highest one-third of waves. Most waves will be smaller than this.

However, maximum wave heights can be up to twice that of the significant wave height.

Always Check the latest forecast before you go on the water! Call 1900 969 966 or use the Bureau of Meteorology weather information on fishvictoria.com here.
