Famous in the USA for their superior ride and sea-keeping ability, the Luhrs range of powerboats will soon be arriving in Australia. There are 14 models ranging from 28’ to 44’. All models feature a signature fine entry bow (to slice through waves) that develops into a “Carolina” flare (that throws water away from the boat and gives a dry ride) leading out to out to their wide beam (for stability & comfort) and spacious cockpits.

Better known for their yacht racing skills, keen fishermen Ron Jacobs and Tony Poole have teamed up to form “BlueWater Power Yachts” to import and develop the Australian dealer and service network for Luhrs.

Ron Jacobs said, “We became aware of a market niche that Luhrs fills perfectly. Experience has shown that racing yachts quite often fit the bill incredibly well for what many Australians enjoy most. That is, competitive racing machines often double very successfully as spacious day-boats for on-water entertaining and cruising while offering good accommodation for over-nighting and cruising.”

“In Luhrs powerboat terms this translates to mean the large cockpit representing perfection for a team of keen fishermen is also perfect for entertaining a group of friends in comfort. With the fishing gear cleverly stowed away in the many custom built lockers, a Luhrs is transformed into a luxurious weekender. The dry comfortable ride, space and luxury is appreciated every bit as much by the family as it is the fishing buddies.”

Tony Poole said, “Ron’s enthusiasm after visiting the factory in Florida and spending time testing the various models was infectious. My recent trip has reinforced the enthusiasm. A major positive that regularly surfaced was long and short-term owners alike see Luhrs boats as being good value in the marketplace.”

“We like the performance and innovative use of space in both the Open and Convertible (flybridge) models. For example, the Convertibles offer safe and easy flybridge access via the ‘Luhrs BridgeWalk’ (no more ladders) without encroaching on cockpit space. The stairs also house integrated coolers and storage lockers.”

Other influential evidence to help the pair make their decision though came from Professional Skipper Steve (Hoggy) Haygarth who accompanied Ron on his trip; “The Luhrs 32 rides better, handles better, and is drier than most 37’ boats I’ve driven.” Enough said.

BlueWater Power Yachts will have a number of Luhrs on display at Gibson Marina Pittwater, near Mona Vale.
