GIANT TUNA CAUGHT ON MANN'S GIGANTICUS 50+(tm)
Fishermen using Mann's new G50+(tm) introduced in April 2001, have enjoyed great success in landing striper, grouper, wahoo, cobia and other saltwater species while fishing at depths not reached beforehand by normal trolling baits. The G50+(tm) however, was originally designed for fishing in even deeper offshore waters, the habitat of the giant billfish and tuna.
Mann's product development team knew it would only be a matter of time before a catch of one of these huge fish with a G50+(tm) was reported - and now it's happened!
Trolling in some of the most difficult and sometimes treacherous waters in the world, the Straits of Gibraltar, Jose and Jorge Alvarez, owners of a large retail saltwater fishing store near Malaga, Spain, landed a 278 kg. (613 lbs.) Bluefin Tuna on a Blue Back Mylar G 50+(tm) on August 28th, 2001.
The Alvarez brothers, arguably the premier saltwater fishermen in Southern Spanish coastal waters, were amazed not only at the trolling performance of the G50+(tm) but at its durability. Jose Alvarez believes "the bait will hold up against even larger tuna which reach 400-500 kg. in waters where the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea meet."
The G50+(tm) special features:
- A floating/diving lure having a through-body wire from lip to tail to reduce missed fish from "bite-offs"
- Special self centring lip design to insure true running at speeds over 10 knots
- Super thick wall construction without loss of floatation
- At 4 knots, with 200 feet of 60lb monofilament line out, will run over 60 feet deep; using 80lb monofilament will run over 50 feet deep
- Special "Monster Option" rigging instructions are supplied in the package
The G50+(tm) comes in five proven and preferred saltwater colours, they are Pearl/Black (GDRB5010), Rainbow (GDRB5067), Blue Back (GDRB5077-M), Redhead (GDRB5081), Black Back (GDRB5087-M).
