COME JOIN THE FISHING FUN AT EILDON PONDAGE
Victorian families looking for a fun outing should make their way to the free Family Fishing Day at Eildon Pondage this Saturday, October 20, Minister Responsible for Fisheries, Joe Helper said today.
“The day follows the successful Family Fishing Festival held at the Eildon Pondage in May and will offer a range of hands-on activities to teach children and families about recreational fishing,“ Mr Helper said.
“In the morning, children aged between 4 and 16 will be able to take part in recreational fishing on the banks of Eildon Pondage.
“Fishing rods will be available for children to borrow and volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and assistance.
“In the afternoon, demonstrations and workshops for children will focus on developing fishing techniques and skills. Children can have a go at casting at targets and learn how to tie the knots and rigs needed to set up the ideal bait.”
The event is part of the Government’s Go Fishing in Victoria initiative launched last year and is made possible with the support of local organisations and volunteers.
“Family fishing events are a major component of the $3.2 million Go Fishing in Victoria initiative, which aims to increase opportunities for recreational fishing across Victoria by improving facilities and promoting fishing as a fun and healthy outdoor family activity,” Mr Helper said.
Eildon Lions Club members will provide a free BBQ lunch for all registered children. A local chef will also be demonstrating ways to cook fish and will be providing samples to taste.
A number of prizes will be given away during the day, including tackle and accommodation packages.
The day will run from 8am to 3pm. Families are strongly encouraged to pre-register by calling 136 186. Registered participants will not require a fishing licence on the day.
