You think you’ve heard it all until you get a strange fishing report, some are true and others you’re a little sceptical about until the photos can back it up.

The reason I say this is because of the dolphin fish report I received during the week from Bass Strait, and sure enough the photos back it up. If anybody would like to see them, drop into the Cranbourne store or log onto www.ifish.com.au and look in Paul's Pix.

FLINDERS ISLAND ADVENTURE
I have had a lot of interest about the Flinders Island trip I have put together for May 23rd, 24th and 25th.

Both myself and staff member, Adam, are running the three day trip, fishing the North East River, offshore bottom bouncing for Tasmanian trumpeter and beach fishing for gummy sharks.

I have 3 seats left available for those wishing to join us. For more information you can contact either Adam or myself on 5996 6500.

IFISH
I spoke with Paul over the phone on Wednesday for a fishing report while he was filming for IFISH series 3. He is currently fishing 20 nautical miles offshore from the Gold Coast with Doug Burt from Doug Burt’s Tackle World. They are fishing from a 51ft Riv called “The Phantom” with Skipper Ian Walker.

Paul said that he was fishing in 550 metres of water with electric fishing reels. They caught plenty of fish including 10 blue eye trevalla to 40lb and a monster 50lb cod, which have exceptional eating qualities.

After catching and releasing many fish, they had to stop. Taking some time out to have a troll, they had a hook-up on a 400lb blue marlin only to have it spit the hooks when it launched from the water.

Paul said they were heading out again to troll for big blues on Thursday and Friday, which we will have more information on in next week's report.

OFFSHORE

SEAL ROCKS

Quiggy and Simon fished in 30 metres around Seal Rocks on Tuesday. The boys landed a 60 kilo bronze whaler which took a whole tuna bait. They also report catching plenty of pinky snapper.

CAPE SCHANCK
I received an SMS message on my mobile phone during the week of an angler holding a dolphin fish. After asking where it was caught he said 20 kilometres off Cape Shcanck.

Bill from Preston and some mates went tolling for striped tuna but ended up catching 20 dollies around the 3 kilo mark. They all took various coloured 6” skirted lures. If anybody would like to see the photo’s drop into the Cranbourne store.

SURF

KILCUNDA
Michael Adams and mate fish from the Kilcunda Surf Beach during the week to land 18 good sized salmon. The biggest was estimated at around 7lb and were taken during the run-out tide.

WESTERN PORT

CORONET BAY
Bill from JR Charters reports bagging out on elephants in the Coronet Bay area throughout the week. He said 80% of the fish are females and are taking ½ pilchard baits. He also reports whiting to 40cm along the banks of the Cerberus Channel.

CORINELLA
Chris and his son Tyler fished off Corinella to land 16 elephants. All fish were taken on squid strips.

ELIZABETH ISLAND
Wayne and his family fished in around 3 metres of water near Elizabeth Island last weekend. Together they caught and released 9 elephants to 3.2 kilos (80cm). All fish were taken during the run out tide on pilchards.

George and Nick also fished in the Elizabeth Island area on Tuesday. They landed two gummy sharks of 1m and 1.2m in length on trevally and tuna fillets. The first hour of the flood tide was best.

STOCKYARD POINT
We have had a series of reports coming from Stockyard Point this week with anglers catching their bag during the low tide. Pilchards, squid and tuna have been successful baits.

CANNONS CREEK
Ryan and Andrew fished Cannons Creek on Monday. Fishing the high tide they caught plenty of salmon on pipis and silver trevally on squid strips.

CAT BAY
Regular land-based anglers Clint and Ash fished from the beach at Cat Bay on Sunday morning. They boys caught a 3 kilo butterfish, tailor, pinky snapper and a seven gill shark which cut them off. Run-out tide was best.

Good luck and fish hard,
