Although elephants may be the most reported fish this week, there have still been some anglers able to get a bait to sit on the bottom long enough for some other prized species to eat it.

For those who haven’t logged onto the IFISH website lately, I suggest you take a few minutes to do so. Last week we updated the site by adding a few RED HOT SPECIALS only available to internet subscribers. We have also a new product review featuring Owner’s Cultiva hard body lures; it is definitely worth a glance.

WESTERN PORT

ELEPHANTS
I have received plenty of elephant shark reports from the majority of the deep channels in Western Port. Though this may be the case, we have received more reports coming from the Corinella region, the Elephant Triangle and along the northern arm near Hastings. There has been quite a large run of female fish to a staggering 6 kilos. Productive baits have been squid, pilchards and pipis. The top of the flood tide has been best.

WESTERN ENTRANCE
I headed out with mates Blakey and Will on Saturday night. We fished the western entrance in search of a gummy shark. After fishing for about 30 minutes, we managed two nice gummy sharks of 3.2 kilos and 10.5 kilos on squid baits. We also pulled the hooks on another two fish. All fish were taken during the flood tide in 12 metres of water.

BUOY 13
Lyn Quigg fished in 14 metres of water during the run-out tide on Saturday. Using a Snapper Snatcher laced with squid strips she landed a 2 metre long seven gill shark.

LYSAGHTS
Eric Fransdonk fished around Crawfish Rock on Sunday to have a cracker of a session. Using Californian squid he managed a 54cm gummy shark and 3 nice flathead. Making a short move he managed 8 King George whiting on pipi baits.

John ventured out on Friday night to fish in10 metres of water off Lysaghts. Using cured eel fillet he caught and released a nice gummy shark of 20 kilos. He also managed another gummy which was smaller. Both fish were taken on the high tide change.

WARNEET PIER
Jim and his son Mark fished the pier on Sunday. During the top of the tide they managed good numbers of silver trevally to 26cm on squid baits.

Andrew also had a good session while fishing from the Warneet Pier this week when he caught an elephant fish of around 2 kilos. He fished the flood tide using pilchards for bait.

WATSONS INLET
Peter and son Shaun fished the entrance to Watson’s Inlet in 1.6 metres of water. They did very well fishing the run in tide, catching 35 leatherjacket to 40cm. The best baits were pipi and mussel.

CORINELLA
Staff member of Tackle World Cranbourne, Adam Ring, fished with mate Borno on Wednesday night. The boys caught and released 20 elephant fish in 5 meters of water. The best baits were squid.
