Narooma
Yellowfin tuna is the word at the minute as a dozen or so fish to 45kg have been landed at Montague Island within the last 4 or 5 days. Locals are having a great time trolling bibbed minnows for these bruisers with the smallest fish weighing 31kg. I do know of a few fish that were bigger than these sizes lost also, so there’s certainly some decent tuna action happening. Most of the fish have come from the northern end, with the water hovering around 18 degrees. Out wider reports of yellowfin and albacore around the shelf have also had the locals talking. It’s been a while since we have experienced this early season action and let’s hope it continues.
At the island a few kingies are getting caught too, but they are mainly on the smaller side and undersize. Don’t forget the minimum length of kingfish now is 650mm, up from the previous mark of 600mm. Fish are falling to jigs and trolled skirted lures; it shouldn’t be long before the bigger fish get here.
In the estuaries Wagonga is on the improve with a few big flatties around. We have managed a few big fish up to 90cm of late, all on big plastics and in deeper water. The action will only get better as we head further into the month. Tuross has slowed somewhat but persistence there will see you reap rewards!
Wonboyn Lake
Fishing very well with flathead, bream, trevally, snapper, tailor and estuary perch all abundant. Fish are quite widespread with anglers fishing lures certainly out-fishing the bait fishos. Water here is 16 degrees and on the improve.
Eden
Been a few kings down at Mowarrie Point south of Eden with a handful of fish nudging 9kg. They are good fish and have mostly been taken on jigs and livebait. Every day has been different down there, some days they are firing up and others are a bit quiet. The next 6 weeks or so should see the hoodlums really turn it on.
Tight lines all,
