Fellow anglers Apologies for my lack of reports over that last few months, I have a good excuse though if you read below.
Just a note, if you are heading to the Sandown Yamaha Tackle Show look me up I will be on the Millbrook Lodge stand.
Firstly it has been a wet and wild week up here with snow to 800m and our rivers rising. Of course the trout streams are closed in NSW and Victoria at the moment but there is some relief available to anglers wishing to take the cold head on.
Only 2 reports I am afraid...
Hume Dam
Is on fire with trout being caught in front of the Dam wall (upstream side). Anglers have been reporting full bags and fish up to 8 lbs. Word is out though and many anglers can be seen trolling in the area. Best fished with lures of any shape and size but generally in a lighter color. Fishermen have been changing depth, lure and lure color and are still hooking up. But most are using a white tassie devil fished slowly.
Below Hume Dam
Below the wall lead flickers have been doing quite well while the flyfishos were washed out with a high discharge the other week. A quick look at he chart shows that the Hume discharge is back to a base flow of 460 ML a day. Long and the short is that it is wadeable again. I would suggest using streamer style flies (green, white and Black Rabbit, Bushy’s Horror or similar) swung through the deeper pools downstream of Heywood’s bridge.
Ok now for my lack of reporting, well have just spent quite a few weeks in Alaska and British Columbia fishing the huge salmon runs of the north pacific. While the fishing was fantastic I guess a picture will say a thousand words so I will list them below with a description. Next week I will add more on the trip.

Lake Louise and its famous Chalet.

Red Salmon Kenai River Alaska – Red salmon literally head up this river in their thousands. Arguably the best fighting fish they take screaming run after run. This one took a green Yarn style fly.

Wife’s King Salmon, Kasiloff River, Alaska.

Combat fishing on the Russian River, Alaska.
