Can you identify this Townsville fish?

Chris writes:
My friend recently came back from Townsville. He came back with a photo of a fish he caught that we cannot identify. Any one help out?

Peter Jolly replies:
I am not sure but that looks like one of those fish that hang around with sharks under the belly, I think they are called a ramora (spelling?).

Chris replies:
Thanks Peter, we have since found another photo taken. We beleive you are spot on because on the bottom of the fish there appears to be a larger sucker.

Damian replies:
In answer to Chris' question about the unidentified fish. As Peter says It is a remora (with an 'e'), and the sucker is on top of the fishes head.

Harry replies:
The others are quite correct, the fish is a "sucker"... actually its proper name is a remora. Very common catch in Far North Queensland, over and around reef areas. They are a real pest and make short work of well rigged baits intended for mackerel and other more sought after species... BUT everything in the ocean has a purpose in life.

Happened to stumble onto this: http://www.thejump.net/id/shark-remora.htm. Might shed some more light on the subject. Matt.
