Looking for snapper from a boat
Carmine writes:
I've just brought a boat and I'm really dying to catch a snapper. Can anyone tell me how to and where to catch one?

Vlad replies:
Dear Carmine, I do not know where to begin to tell you about snapper fishing. I won't tell you everything because it will take me a few days. Anyway first thing...
BAIT:
Silver whiting, pilchards, squid, souries and of course garfish when you are fishing for big snapper, it is good two put a whole fish on the hook secured by a half hitch at the tail. For smaller pinkies you can just put half on. Use only enough lead to keep your bait on the bottom. Open up the drag, not too loose but pretty loose, and when it SCREEEEEEEEEEEMS off you will know straight away it's a snapper. Give it some time to run because the snapper tend to run a while with the bait before actually swallowing it.
PLACES:
It would be fair to say that during the snapper season from late September to April most places in Port Phillip Bay are suitable for snapper fishing, they like reef, bottom and structures. Now, good places to try for smaller pinkies include Black Rock, Altona and Williamstown. This is only brief but if you would like any more information about anything about snapper fishing, or any other type of bay fishing, email me on thefisherman82@hotmail.com

Carmine (not the same one) replies:
I must agree with all Vlad has said. I would add it may depend on how big your boat is as to where are the safer areas. Also nice to see other Carmine's out there into fishing. Good luck - Carmine.
