Legality of handnetting garfish at night?
Stephen George writes:
I need information on the legality of fishing at night with a prawn light wading in the water with a hand net catching garfish in Western Port Bay.

Hi Stephen, we checked with Fisheries Victoria and they said: "This is OK provided the 'hand net' fits within the description of a dip net on page 51 of the Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide (see also here for the regulations online) and that you are not within 30m of the mouth of a river or creek."
Also, while there is no minimum size limit for garfish, a total bag/possession limit of 40 fish applies to all scale fish species.
