Need help to catch some fish at Inverloch

Sarah writes:
I've been going down to Inverloch lately and have been trying to catch some fish without much success other than toadies and crabs? I am fishing off the shore about two hundred metres from the pier at the Screw Creek end. Is there a better place to be to catch something edible, and if so can you please explain where it is? I don't have a boat so shore fishing would be best. Thanks!!!

(See Alan's regular report here)
There have been fish caught from the shore near the entrance at the last of the run out and first of the run in tides. The best baits have been pippies and Bass yabbies. Whiting to 35cm plus have been caught along with pinkies up to 1kg and also the occasional salmon. Also at low water around Pensioner's Corner there are smaller just above size whiting being caught along with silvers to about 400gms at best. Probably the best spot would be Maher's Landing where at this time of the year the big flathead up to 12lb are starting to show up. Fishing from the shore near the ramp itself is starting to pick up with gummies and trevally also being caught on whitebait, squid and pilchards. Don't be afraid to try other baits as well. The best times are in the evening when there is a run in tide. Hope this helps. Regards, Alan.
