Those were the days...
Lamenting the demise of the drum surf reel

Bob Grimwood writes:

Hi. I am just lamenting the slow demise of the old drum surf reel.

Not having done much surf fishing since I left Point Lonsdale in 1959 I suddenly find my daughter living in Port Fairy. All the cheap gear in my price range seems to incorpoate egg beater spin reels. Damned things. Where do you pick up a good bamboo pole???

Have located my old plastic Capstan 69 (1950's vintage). Hope to restore this (if parts available) and show the young folks how to not make birdsnests.

All the best to all anglers for the Xmas period. The old bloke on Killarney beach will be me. Wrinklybob. (Bob Grimwood)
