Disregard for limits at Black Rock/Sandringham...
Andrew writes:
I am disgusted by the number of people fishing the Black Rock/Sandringham area and pay absolutely no regard to the size/bag limits. Upon returning to the ramp with only a few fish for dinner and a couple for the freezer (all legal size) I ask
the other boats how they went. The response is usally disappointing as a catch of 20-30 pinkies, nearly all well undersize are proudly displayed.
One night earlier this year I encountered 2 of these idiots in one night with more than eighty fish each!! This is one of the greatest fishing grounds in the region and is being exploited and damaged by a few selfish, careless and stupid people. Do these people not understand that these are the 1 or 2 kilo fish of next year?
As the next snapper season is fast approaching I fear that the mass slaughter is following close behind. I am more than willing to pay the small sum of $25 a year for my fishing licence but where is the money going? A marine park is not the answer as this is a valuable area where young families can go and children can learn the joys of fishing with out travelling a long way from Melbourne.
I am yet to see a single Fisheries officer at the Half Moon Bay boat ramp and I know that on a single night in peak season those who choose to plunder our natural resources and continue to deplete our precious fish stocks could be sent a very strong message.
So please people, return what you don't need or there won't be any left tomorrow.
