Fear for the environment's future

Bill Dew writes:
Many years ago friends and I used to go to a beautiful spot at Molesworth, the farmers allowed us to drive through their paddocks right down to the river's edge, the only conditions being clean up, take your rubbish home and make sure you close all gates after you pass through. One year for the opening of the trout seasion we even took a caravan down to the edge of the river. One trip a couple of years later we went back and found the gates padlocked. When we enquired at the local pub we were informed that the farmers prize bull had been shot. This happened many years ago but from reading your Shame File I can see things have not changed too much. We did and still do take pride in the fact that we follow a code of care for the environment but I fear for the future.
