Location: Apollo Bay Time: 12am-4am
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Pier
Target Fish: Anything big
Bait\Lure\Fly: Pilchard
Fish Caught:

1 x carpet shark @ 60cm (released)
1 x ray @ wing span 140cm around 35kg-40kg (released)

Comments:

My boyfriend and I started fishing 2 hours before high tide at the pier. A couple of seals were around eating garfish, but they didn't bother us. We used fished that we caught before in the arvo to feed the seals. Then my boyfriend caught a carpet shark (released) while I had fun trying to wind the ray up (1.5 hours later). Suprised that K-Mart $19 reel and $30 surf rod could handle a ray that big. Anyway we won't be able to take him home (too big for car roof). Another fun day for me in Apollo Bay.

Location: Apollo Bay Time: 9.30am-2pm
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Rocks
Target Fish: Salmon, anything
Bait\Lure\Fly: Pilchard, chicken, whitebait, pipis, silver/gold popper
Fish Caught:

10 x salmon @ tiny
1 x salmon @ 30cm

Comments:

Tried off rocks at pier, pretty windy and choppy, lots of small salmon. Had an average one on but dropped off at last minute, tried in harbour but nothing but a seal swimming around. Didn't bother surf fishing because of the vast amounts of kelp washing up. Weather was fine during the day but gets very cold at night.

Location: Apollo Bay Time: 4pm-8pm
Type of Water: Estuary Type of Fishing: Pier
Target Fish: Mullet
Bait\Lure\Fly: Cut pilchard
Fish Caught:

8 x mullet @ 20cm-45cm

Comments:

Saw an old greek lady about 70 sitting all day with her pole, looked in her bucket, couldn't believe how many she had so sussed it out. Fished with a float and cut pilchard or whitebait, bit of berley often. Had to watch for the slightest movement of the float or your bait was taken, these mullet were worse than leatherjackets, but some were massive. Good fun on light gear and tasted nice fresh.

38 x salmon @ 1lb-2lb

Went to Johanna with a friend to fish on a really blustery day. It was rough and there wasn't even a bite. Decided to cut our losses and headed to Apollo Bay as it would be calmer. First cast, five seconds and we were already reeling in the first. Four double headers, a lot of missed bits and throwing a lot of undersize back, we had 38 of them. Ran out of space in the eski and decided to call it a day. Plus it had started to rain again and was getting dark. A brilliant day all round. Greg tried a red popper so he wouldn't have to bait up. Worked a treat snagging six at least. (See photo in Gallery section.)

Location: Apollo Bay Time: 7.30am-2pm
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Rocks
Target Fish: Salmon
Bait\Lure\Fly: Whitebait, bluebait, pilchards
Fish Caught:

2 x salmon @ 40cm
2 x flathead @ 30cm
1 x gummy shark @ 5kg

Comments:

Was a quiet morning, caught the 2 flatties on the 1 rig and the salmon was huge. We chucked the gummy back as we didn't need it, but it was a weird looking gummy as it was a more sandy colour and much wider than normal gummies. Very fun day.

It was a great day until it started to belt down rain in the arvo. Not a bad spot at the rock walls.
