2 May 2009, Nic Patton
Location: Bass Strait Time: 9am-3pm
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Boat
Target Fish: Mako shark
Bait\Lure\Fly: Saurie, yakka, couta heads
Fish Caught:

2 x mako sharks @ 24kg-28kg
14 x couta @ .9-1.2metres

Comments: Grant Hitchiner went through the rip in a 7 knot current (lucky there was no swell), headed out to 70mt line and waited an hour for the first. The couta showed up at the same time and were launching out of the water. Second shark turned up at 2.30pm which took a couta head filled with stimulate bait attractant. I fished with the Boneham brothers. Brad wasn't happy when Adam clubbed his goolies instead of the flapping couta. Best tip for others:rattling floats is a must above your baits (see photo in Gallery section).

24 February 2005, Peter Burrill
Location: PPB Heads and offshore Time: 7am-10pm
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Boat
Target Fish: Salmon, squid, shark
Bait\Lure\Fly: Lures, bait
Fish Caught: bag x salmon @ various
bag x squid @ various
1 x shark @ approx 100kg
Comments: We left the ramp at 7 and headed straight for the heads and trolled for salmon, within half an hour we had all we needed an then moved offshore for squid. Within a short while we had ample for the target species (mako or thresher shark). We drifted from the 37 metre mark. Within seconds of the trail being laid a thresher was patrolling the rear of the boat. The ensuing hookup and landing was brilliant. Giant thanks to Bellarine Fishing Charters for their skill and expertise. (See photo in Gallery section.)

9-12 July 2004, Leigh
Location: King Island Time: Everyday
Type of Water: Ocean Type of Fishing: Surf
Target Fish: Salmon, gummy sharks, anything?
Bait\Lure\Fly: Bluebait, pippies, squid, lures
Fish Caught: 60 x Australian salmon @ 3lbs- 8lbs
15 x barracouta @ 45cm-1.1m
25 x squid @ 1kg-3kg
35 x wrasse (parrot fish) @ 200g-2kg
Comments: Me and a mate decided to go to King Island. First day (Friday) was the best producing 30 salmon ranging fromn 3 pounds to the biggest of 8 pounds. Then went to the main town Currie and went to the jetty and caught 15 squid. On the Saturday we went to a place called Grassy which has a breakwater which forms a harbour. This harbour is home to some huge rays and hundreds of barracouta as we found out when casting lazer lures on small rods and wire trace. Great fun. Also managed 10 squid from in front of the boat club. Sunday was crap weather down south of the island so we went up north and managed some more nice salmon. Monday was just one more visit to Grassy harbour for some fun with the 'couta and squid. if your wondering why I didn't mention wrasse (parrot fish), that's because down there they are like toadies to Victoria. They go after anything.
