Caught the flathead off Port Albert about 8km offshore and the pinkies and then put a live mullet out the back and it got bitten in half. The boat we were with got a 4 and half foot gummy and some flatties. |

We left the ramp at 7 and headed straight for the heads and trolled for salmon, within half an hour we had all we needed an then moved offshore for squid. Within a short while we had ample for the target species (mako or thresher shark). We drifted from the 37 metre mark. Within seconds of the trail being laid a thresher was patrolling the rear of the boat. The ensuing hookup and landing was brilliant. Giant thanks to Bellarine Fishing Charters for their skill and expertise. (See photo in Gallery section.) |

Me and a mate decided to go to King Island. First day (Friday) was the best producing 30 salmon ranging fromn 3 pounds to the biggest of 8 pounds. Then went to the main town Currie and went to the jetty and caught 15 squid. On the Saturday we went to a place called Grassy which has a breakwater which forms a harbour. This harbour is home to some huge rays and hundreds of barracouta as we found out when casting lazer lures on small rods and wire trace. Great fun. Also managed 10 squid from in front of the boat club. Sunday was crap weather down south of the island so we went up north and managed some more nice salmon. Monday was just one more visit to Grassy harbour for some fun with the 'couta and squid. if your wondering why I didn't mention wrasse (parrot fish), that's because down there they are like toadies to Victoria. They go after anything. |
