Burrumbeet Creek - Ballarat

Related Pages:

2 November 2003, Sam Godfrey-Roberts
Location: Burrumbeet Creek Time: 4pm-7pm
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Shore
Target Fish: Eels (maybe the off chance of catching a trout or redfin)
Bait\Lure\Fly: Scrubbies
Fish Caught: 13 x eels @ all different sizes
Comments: Just went for a drive out there to check out the water levels and had the rods in the boot so I thought I would throw in a line for an hour or so. Just as I was leaving (around 5.15) they started biting and as soon as I unhookeed one, another one of the slimy suckers would be straight back on. Great fun to bring in and they put up a suprisingly strong fight. Water level still really low in most areas and eels is all you will get out there! If you want to go for the eels I suggest going at around sunset as that seems to be when they are on the bite (are these scavengers ever not on the bite?).

Comments: Oh woe is me, the water levels are so far down and this summer has been so hot, I have all but given up on the chance of getting a creel full of trout in and around Ballarat.
I am now contemplating an act so seriously insideous, so desperatley deranged, so ... disgusting! Yes DISGUSTING is the right word for it.
Dear readers of this forlorn post, please forgive me, for I have sinned (no, not spin). After reading Greg French's latest book (Frog Call), I was thrown into such a craving for a tug on the line that I feel renewed sympathy for junkies.
      I needed a fix!
Alas, so in need of a fish, I went to our local eel fishing creek and sat with bait-ed breath for an eternity. But as the night closed in, my evil urges were satisfied! Oh how they were satisfied!
I had no idea how much fun catching those insideously slimey snakelike creatures could be. And the buggers were everywhere! They also put up a fair fight as well.
Not only did I have a real hoot of a time, I had a chance to re-evaluate my thinking on fishing targetted species.
Next time, I'm going CARP fishing!
