heaps x arrow squid @ all sizes
6 x flatty @ 30cm-35cm
2 x morwong @ ?
2 x sergeant baker @ ?

Comments: With a northerly and low swell forecast it was time to head out offshore to my favourite hunting ground deep off Woolami. Conditions were far from ideal with a good 15kt E-SE blowing, but not much swell, the chop made up for it though! Started the day with a drift for flatties out the front of Punchbowl and landed half a dozen all 30cm-35cm, with fish in the box it was time to hit the deeper water. Well out in the middle of nowhere, 2 seals managed to find us and you know how it goes, you hook a fish and they steal it. Moved to another spot, managed to catch sergeant baker, leatherjacket, morwong, barber perch, arrow squid, and then the dynamic fish eating duo rocked up so we pulled the pin. Heading back in we said g'day to clagga who had just come out and then got stuck into a hot little salmon session at the entrance. Only managed to land 2 1kg fish and lost 3-4 more due to poor angling technique of my dad and his mate. All in all a small mixed bag but very disappointing compared to some previous ripper sessions we have had out there.

1 x blue shark @ 30kg
8 x arrow squid @ various

Comments: We went to Phillip Island to fish the South East Gippsland Shark Tournament. On Friday we went offshore but found it too rough and with awesome wind gusts knocking us around and spraying plumes of water all over the place. Even inside Western Port was really messy. On Saturday the comp began and after only 1. 5 hours of berleying we hooked up to something big. After 5 minutes our 180lb leader was bitten off. Back in the water and within 10 minutes another hookup, only to have the same thing happen! Mad race to get back in the water when we saw a fin in the berley trail to hookup to a 30kg blue. No real fight till we had it near the boat. After that session we had nothing else for the day. On Sunday we went out a bit further than the 70m mark we fished on Sat. Again we had early action with a solid hookup. This fish just dove and dove, the reel rapidly loosing line. This time the line on the double broke at the swivel! No other fish for the day. Four other boats near us all landed makos! Awesome weekend despit being seasick.
