Location: Kiewa River Time: 10am
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Shore
Target Fish: Trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Celta (red)
Fish Caught: 1 x rainbow @ 3lb
1 x rainbow @ 1lb
Comments: Water was up and river flowing quite fast (below pondage). Fished the day before with no results. Overcast day must have done the trick!! Also had quite a number of hits from small trout and redfin close to the bank. Best results in shallow fast flowing water. Fish released.

Location: Kiewa River Time: 11am
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Wading
Target Fish: Rainbow and brown trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Celtas
Fish Caught: 4 x rainbows @ ?
2 x browns @ ?
Comments: Fished in bright sun using black/copper Celtas, and a mix of green/gold red/gold when the cloud came over. Many fish sighted and seemed semi-interested in lures, but should have landed a lot more than the 6 I did (all released, varying sizes including a couple larger than average). Many on but water was flowing fast and that coupled with snags and the quick elevation of the water meant many came off again. Fished the week before the fires came through and wrecked everything again.

Location: Kiewa River/Lake Guy Time: 5am-7pm
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Shore
Target Fish: Rainbow and brown trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Mudeyes, scrubbies, Tassies
Fish Caught: 5 x rainbows @ 30cm-45cm
Comments: Me and my friends were fishing the Pondage at 5am. Not even any rises. Some of us were using bait, some Tassies. I saw one caught at The Weir. Then we went to Lake Guy and me & mates caught 1 rainbow in the stream above Lake Guy, and a nice rainbow of 1.5lb-2lb in the Pondage at about 6.15pm-6.30pm on a pink Tassie. Very quiet up there for some reason. Changed tactics and lures and rigs etc. Not much luck considering we spent 2 days there. Cheers, Rob Howe.

Target Fish: Trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Fly - nymphs

Comments: Fished Kiewa pretty hard for the one trout. Good sized fish though. Lots of campers swimming in river. Went to Briggs bridge to get away from them and have some uninterrupted fishing. Water was fairly low.

Week ending 17 October 2003, Peter Panozzo
Location: Kiewa river Time: Afternoons
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Shore
Target Fish: Brown and rainbow trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Worm
Fish Caught: 10 x brown trout @ 350g-750g
Comments: The Kiewa River has become a milky colour these past couple of weeks, it is suspected that there has been a major land slip in the headwaters of the Pretty Valley branch of the East Kiewa River. The fish that were kept contained millipieds.

27 September 2003, Peter Panozzo
Location: Kiewa river Time: 2pm-4pm
Type of Water: River Type of Fishing: Shore
Target Fish: Brown and rainbow trout
Bait\Lure\Fly: Worm
Fish Caught: 1 x brown trout @ 1kg
Comments: The Kiewa river is running very high and slightly turbid due to the spring thaw and consistant rain that is happening. The trout were biting timidly and proved difficult to hook in the swift current.

Comments: It seems that the bushfires in this area have removed many of the natural insect predators, such as birds and and reptiles. As a result the area is absolutely teaming with insect life. Far more than you would usually see in this area during April. However, despite this natural phenomenon and me trying a number of different tried-and-proven patterns, I was still unable to capture even the smallest rainbow this weekend. If you were thinking about heading up... I wouldn't be discouraged though. My technique was far from perfect. This was my first time fly fishing in over 3 months and boy did it show! What was encouraging was I noticed two locals having reasonable success with mudeyes about 30cm underneath a very small float off the southern rock wall. They captured three rainbows all around the 800 grams mark.
