We got onto the water at 2.30am in the morning and started casting squid jigs around. We managed 5 squid in an hour. We then motored into the shallows and netted a heap of garfish, then went near the jettys and and got 6 jakkas. We then shot off into the entrance and dropped an anchor on the 18m drop off. After 35 minutes we had 3 small gummy sharks and as we were about to move, a rod took off and landed a nice gummy shark. Now was the time we'd fish for kingfish, we went into the start off the old port and set out three livies. After 30 minutes a rod buckled and I set the hooks and up came a snapper. We pulled up ancor and went to where the old basket beacon was. We motored around until the fish came up, so we dropped the livies and something started hitting the live garfish. I hit the fish and off it took, it snapped me off after about 5 minutes. We lost 4 like that, they were running out wide and the line was hittng the beacon. The fish were about 10kg-15kg and we had no hope on snapper gear (6500 baitrunners and the old penn spinfishers). I set up the tld 30 and put it down with a live whiting. Within in 15 minutes the ratchet was screaming. The fish hit straight away. I was running 8kg of drag and it didn't even feel it. I could feel the line scratching the beacon. I fought it for 18 minutes before I pulled the hooks. We got good photos of the kingies on top off the water running. I'll put them on soon, Cheers Gatty. |

We heard a good report about out there so we went there the next day went through Port Albert really early, first rod down bent over and snapper went crazy. After 2 hours snapper turned off and 10 mins later another rod bent over then gummys came on. While they went off 2 bronzys came up to the back of the boat lifted the baits and nailed them strait away. Five minutes later my penn spinfisher and live and fiber outfit bent over. After 45 minutes had it at the boat and another 5 minutes had it dealt with. An awsome day, the best day ever. All fish on squid and fish fillets. |
