General Report: A late season's whiting report from the Toorak Angling Club for Westernport:
Since Christmas, there have been scattered schools of whiting down the Eastern Channel and the west side of the Middle Bank. If lucky enough to locate a school it has been possible to take the bag limit and many of our members have managed to do this a few times.
The fishing has now declined with catches of less than half a dozen common and the season is now seen as probably the worst for 15 years. At the southern end of the Bay from Rhyll to Cat Bay it is a similar story, although the few fish are big with an average of around 40 cm.
Scattered fish and occasional schools are in the sandbank edges from San Remo to Corinella. Unfortunately the dirty water at the head of the Bay from Corinella right around to Joes Island is still restricting catches. It is encouraging, for next season, to see many undersized fish coming in over the San Remo/Bass flats.
