Out from Mordialloc my dad, me and a couple of mates were having a great time catching flathead to 1.5 kilos and snapper to 3 kilos.

The fish had been quiet for a while but then I had a massive flathead on. I got it into the boat and my dad said, "I'll get this one", picking up his $60 brand new pair of pliers and picking up the fish.

It struck dad on the hand and both the flathead and the pliers went over the side. The pliers sunk to the bottom but the fish was OK.
