Trout & Salmon Regulations - Small Waters Print E-mail
The boundary between a lake and a river is the point at which the flowing water of the river meets the backed up waters of the lake, regardless of the water level of the lake.

MINIMUM LEGAL SIZE: no minimum.
BAG LIMIT: 5 salmonids per day.
CLOSED SEASON: no.

These fisheries all occur in lakes, ponds or retarding basins, generally smaller than 3ha. They are only capable of supporting trout during the cooler months. They are usually stocked prior to the 2nd and 3rd school term breaks. This provides angling opportunities for junior anglers and people with limited mobility.

**Albert Park Lake and Whittlesea Botanical Gardens Lake are only stocked for special events.

***The bag limit of five trout per person per day for Family Fishing Lakes now includes a cap on the number of large trout that can be taken from Lillydale Lake and Kennington Reservoir (Bendigo). In any bag of five trout, no more than two trout may be 35cm or greater.
