Trout & Salmon Regulations - Stocked Lakes & Impoundments Print E-mail
The boundary between a lake and a river is the point at which the flowing water of the river meets the backed up waters of the lake, regardless of the water level of the lake.

MINIMUM LEGAL SIZE: no minimum.
BAG LIMIT: 10 salmonids per day of which no more than 5 salmonids can be less than 30cm.*
CLOSED SEASON: no except Lake Purrumbete** and Lake Wendouree***.

This group of specified waters includes those lakes and impoundments in Victoria that are regularly stocked with yearling salmonids. This bag limit, incorporating a size limit, is designed to limit the take of recently released yearling salmonids to five.

*The bag limit of five trout per person per day for Family Fishing Lakes now includes a cap on the number of large trout that can be taken from Lillydale Lake and Kennington Reservoir (Bendigo). In any bag of five trout, no more than two trout may be 35cm or greater.

**Lake Purrumbete, Camperdown (closed to the taking of salmonids from boats during the closed season – fishing from the bank for salmonids is permitted).

***Lake Wendouree, Ballarat (closed to the taking of salmonids during the salmonid closed season).
