Elephant fish are actually a form of shark and have cartilaginous skeletons. Their most distinguishing feature is a large snout which has a fleshy lobe with a flap hanging down in front of the mouth. Common along the southern Australian coast and particularly in Western Port Bay around late Summer, early Autumn. Try Rhyll, Tankerton and Corinella.
