 MINIMUM LEGAL SIZE: 36cm.
BAG/POSSESSION LIMIT: no species-specific limit.
Note: a total bag/possession limit of 40 fish applies to all scale fish species.
The
short-finned pike is not actually a true pike but is a relative of the
West Indian barracuda (no relation to the barracouta) and is an
excellent sport fish for the light tackle angler. True pikes are
freshwater fish of the Esocidae family.
WHERE: Distributed around the southern coastlines of Australia.
TACKLE: Trolling rigs with wire traces, 4/0 to 6/0 hooks and medium gear.
BAIT: Whitebait, fish strips or lures moved erratically.
EATING: Not renowned for its table qualities.
