Shark, school (snapper shark) Print E-mail

Minimum length 45cm.Effective 14 November 2003.

AKA: snapper shark, tope, greyboy, grey shark.
MINIMUM LEGAL SIZE:
45cm (partial length).
BAG/POSSESSION LIMIT: a total limit of 2 school shark and/or gummy shark. Landed whole or as a carcass.

Like the gummy shark, the pencil shark and the whiskery shark, the school shark is not known to attack swimmers. It is a small shark of 1-1.5 metres which nonetheless does have small, sharp teeth.

SIZE: Up to 1.5 metres, generally of around 1-metre.

WHERE: Both offshore and within more enclosed waters.

BITE: A great pest to snapper anglers who discover their hard won snapper has been severed just behind the head.

TIPS: Will take most fish flesh baits in estuaries and over shallow reefs.
